Why packaging is a quality issue, not just a shipping one

A finished, tested copper assembly that arrives dented, bent or contaminated with moisture has effectively failed quality control — even though the defect happened after it left the factory floor. Export packaging has to protect against vibration, stacking loads and humidity over a shipment that can take weeks and cross several handling points before it reaches the customer.

Protecting against moisture and corrosion in transit

Sea freight in particular exposes cargo to humidity swings inside a container. Components are typically sealed in moisture-barrier bags with desiccant, sometimes with capped tube ends to keep the internal bore clean, before being packed into cartons or crates — protecting both the external finish and, for tube assemblies, the internal cleanliness that was verified during manufacturing.

Crating and load securing

Heavier assemblies and bulk tube coils are packed into wooden crates or pallets designed for the specific weight and shape of the load, with internal bracing to stop parts shifting during transit. Export crates also need to meet destination-country requirements — ISPM-15 treatment marking for wood packaging is a common one that gets checked at customs and can hold up a shipment if missed.

Documentation that travels with the shipment

Beyond the physical packing, export shipments need commercial invoices, packing lists, certificates of origin and, where applicable, mill test certificates to travel with the cargo and match what's declared for customs clearance at the destination. Mismatched paperwork is one of the more common reasons an otherwise well-packed shipment gets delayed at port.
